1:00 pm

Illinois Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Oak Ridge Cemetery

Springfield

The State Historic Sites at Springfield invite you to join us for this annual ceremony to honor and remember the Illinoisans listed as prisoner of war or missing in action (POW/MIA) during the Vietnam War.

Family and friends of soldiers will have the opportunity to hang handmade, heart-shaped ornaments with the names of loved ones on a tree near the memorial. The names of the POW/MIA soldiers will be read aloud. Family and friends are also welcome to bring their own weatherproof ornaments to hang on the tree.

Questions about this event can be directed to our Site Superintendent at DNR.historicspringfield@illinois.gov.

The Illinois Vietnam Veterans Memorial, dedicated in 1988, honors the almost 3,000 Illinoisans killed or listed as missing in action during the Vietnam War. The Memorial is located in Springfield's Oak Ridge Cemetery and is open daily. To learn more, click here.
