Lincoln Tomb Porch Talks
The Lincoln Tomb was formally dedicated on October 15, 1874, 150-years ago. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources will present “Porch Talks” on the grounds of the Residence at the Lincoln Tomb providing 20-30 minute programs about lesser-known facts surrounding the monument. Days and times for each program are listed below; please scroll down for a description of each program. Programs are free and open to all ages; no reservations are necessary.

Restoration of the Lincoln Tomb - 150 years ago, the Tomb of Abraham Lincoln was completed, and the public came to pay their respects. Discover how the monument has stood the test of time, how it has evolved, been preserved, and continues to stand for the perpetual union of America. In this 20-minute program, learn about its construction, reassembly, interior redesign, and today’s restoration work.
Where’s Robert? All the Lincoln family is buried at the Lincoln Tomb, except for Robert Todd Lincoln, the Lincoln's oldest son. Join us in this 20-minute program to find out why that is, and learn more about Robert's accomplishments, and his final resting place.

The Dear Rascals - The Lincoln sons developed quite the reputation in Springfield for their antics and high jinks, often encouraged by their ever-indulgent father, Abraham Lincoln. Mary and Abraham Lincoln fostered an environment that allowed their children free will. The Lincolns did not believe in strict punishment, to the bemusement, and sometimes, annoyance of their friends and neighbors. Abraham and Mary's childhood shaped the parents they ultimately became. Join us at the Lincoln Tomb for a discussion about the Lincoln boys, Robert, Eddie, Willie, and Tad, to learn more about the Lincolns as parents and the children they loved.
Lincoln & Grant - During the Lincoln Tomb’s dedication 150 years ago this year, President Ulysses S. Grant gave a short speech. It was certainly appropriate, as the two men had much in common, each having risen from humble origins on the frontier to be the nation’s leader. The relationship between the two men also played a key role in guiding the country through its greatest crisis.
